Pirmin Affolter joined greenmatch AG in July 2021 as Project Finance Specialist. In a short interview, we talked to him about his background, his main responsibilities and the biggest challenge within his new role:
Pirmin, could you summarise your background in a few sentences?
I grew up in Basel and completed my Bachelor of Arts at the University of St. Gallen. Since I really wanted to study abroad as well, I then completed my Master of Science at ESADE Business School in Barcelona. After my studies, I was able to complement my acquired knowledge with practical experience in the transaction area. Within more than 2 years, I worked for various Swiss investment specialists, mainly on infrastructure projects (including renewable energy projects).
You have been working with us since this summer. What is your role at greenmatch?
After an intensive training phase, as a Project Finance Specialist I primarily support our users with project-specific questions. This close exchange also allows me to experience first-hand how the needs of the market are constantly changing. In order to be able to provide our customers with a tool that meets their future needs, I also include the corresponding customer needs in our development roadmap. In this way, I am actively involved in shaping the greenmatch of tomorrow. Of course, this also includes specifying individual features for our in-house development team.
Why renewables and why fintech? or to put it another way: why greenmatch?
I already found renewable energies very exciting when I was a student. Renewables are a growing and highly dynamic market. Furthermore, climate change is of central importance to me, as it is an immense problem for our and future generations. In addition, I really wanted to work on a product and be involved in shaping it. On the product side, greenmatch could offer me the most scope. Having worked a lot with Excel models myself in my previous positions, I appreciate the extreme added value of greenmatch and am convinced that the software can revolutionise the market in the medium term.
Where do you see the biggest challenge in your job at greenmatch?
Here as well, the answer lies in the product, or rather in its further development. Especially due to the constant change of needs in the market, it is necessary to make far-reaching decisions for the further development of the product in a short time. The most important thing is the right prioritisation of interlocking features.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
Seeing how our product significantly simplifies the way our clients work and enables them to make investment decisions and manage existing assets in significantly less time. Of course, there is also the idea of contributing to the accelerated energetic transition by enabling renewable energy projects to be implemented more quickly and managed sustainably.
What goals do you want to achieve with greenmatch? For me, it is already clear after these 3 months that greenmatch can represent the standard in the profitability calculation and asset management of renewable energies and replace Excel, with its many quirks, at least in the highly professional market environment. We are working towards this goal together as a large team.
Thank you very much for this interesting interview Pirmin!
