According to the French Ministry for Ecological Change, France had 16.9 GW of installed wind capacity on 31st March 2020. However, the pipeline of plants currently under construction is particularly impressive. Also on March 31st, this pipeline was estimated at an impressive level of 12.9 GW.
Additional tender for wind in April 2021
A set of specifications defined in 2017 was initially supposed to regulate the tender rounds for new wind power plants until the end of 2020. However, instead of waiting for new specifications in summer 2021, the French government has now decided to schedule another tender round with a volume of 925 MW in April 2021. This will still be carried out according to the specifications from 2017. Energy transition as an economic driver The French government is making the further expansion of renewable energies a strategic priority. In addition to turning away from fossil fuels, the energy turnaround is thus to become a pillar of the French economy. The geographic conditions in France still offer a lot of potential for wind energy, which will continue to ensure great interest from project developers and investors.
